[Ryukyu Shinpo - 2 April, 2019, Provisional Translation]

In an article entitled, "Former OIST Employee Applied for Intervention over Unjust Dismissal and the Okinawa Labor Bureau Accepted, the Ryukyu Shinpo also reported the case of a Japanese teacher terminated by OIST.

It has been learned that a former Japanese teacher applied for intervention by the Okinawa Labor Bureau, claiming that she was terminated unjustly at the end of her probationary period at OIST. The Okinawa Labor Bureau accepted her application for intervention which was submitted on March 15th.

Since February, this is the third case involving OIST employment issues. The applicant, Mitsuko Tominaga, has 25 years of teaching experience as a Japanese teacher, both in Japan and overseas. In June, 2018, she was hired by OIST for an initial probationary period of three months, but that period was extended for another three months. After a 6-month probationary period, she was fired. Tominaga told the reporter that (the University) should follow the labor law.

OIST said, “We do not make any comments about individual HR cases.”
